Background Information Regarding GreenPlumbers®
The GreenPlumbers® program was developed by the Master
Plumbers & Mechanical Services Association of Australia (MPMSAA)
from an initial project in 2000/01 "The plumber householder interface
in appliance purchase decisions". This project involved a number of
partners such as local council and manufacturers, and had significant
financial sponsorship from whthin the plumbing industry (including
manufacturers) and the Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO).
Since then a series of training and accreditation programs have been
developed by MPMSAA to enhance plumbers skills and knowledge about the
environmental considerations of their work - the new generation of
plumber - the GreenPlumber®.
Based on research conducted by Redding Energy Management, RMIT University (Training Centre for Infrastructure Technology) were engaged to develop the training material and deliver the program with MPMSAA and Industry through participating Local Councils. Major industry leaders are actively supporting the venture as well, in this collective bid to reduce the volume of GHG emissions from household heating and cooling appliances and hot water systems. Consumers stand to benefit from significant savings in running costs and environmental improvements.
Special thanks go to participating Local Councils and supporting manufacturers of energy and water efficient appliances.
